Prerunner Ford ranger build [Part 1]
7987' Ranger prerunner build
BACKGROUND:
Alright, so i am 17 years old and have always been into off roading and motocross. So i decided to save up some cash and build a fun prerunner that may or may not end up turning into a race truck within the next 1 to 3 years. My plans are to see how everything goes and if all goes smoothly it will be race worthy in a few years.
TRUCK SPECS:
87' Ford Ranger, single cab, short bed, 4cyl. 2.3L motor and 5 spd manuel transmission. And it is completly stock...for now.
TRUCK PLANS:
Front End: My plans are to build custom 6" over extended J beams. A J-Beams is when you weld the radius arm to the beam rather than having a bolt application. To do this you should use forged i beams and they are much stronger than cast. Forged i beams are on rangers from 83'-88' to my belief. After extending the beams i am going to build custom pivot boxes along with a beef tranny crossmember. Some people may ask why i chose a J-beam over radius arm, and the answer is that they do the same thing, but since i am cutting and extending the beam, this should add strength into it. I also have some bilstein 9100 race series coilovers that i will be putting on the front end. For the beam extension i will be using 3/16 with internal gussets. The radius arms will be made out of 1.5 x .120 wall DOM tubing. Pivot boxes will also be made out of 3/16.
